Award-winning artist Gregory John Maichack lives in western Holyoke. He is a portraitist and painter working primarily in pastels. He graduated from Holy Cross College with a B.S. in Experimental Psychology in 1974. He also took his first art course there in 1970. Since then, he has trained with such notables in the field of pastel portraiture as internationally acclaimed Daniel Greene, the Copley Society’s Constance Flavell Pratt and Foster Caddell. Maichack is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Academic Artists Association, Lyme Artists Association, Connecticut Pastel Association, Pastel Society of the Southwest and the Degas Pastel Society. He has been in many national juried shows and has been awarded numerous Massachusetts Cultural Council grants.
Maichack, an MCC Gold Star Program Award nominee, is a faculty member of the Quadrangle Museum School at the Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield, MA, and of the Guild Studio School at Eastworks. He also teaches in the continuing education departments at Greenfield Community College, Holyoke Community College and Westfield State College.
